Abstract: In the realm of scientific exploration, groundbreaking advancements in opto-mechanical systems for both terrestrial and space-based cameras are fundamentally reshaping our comprehension of the universe. Allow me to introduce SALTUS (Single Aperture Large Telescope for Universe Studies), an innovative telescope concept designed for mid/far-infrared observations, featuring a large inflatable membrane mirror spanning approximately 20 meters in size. This deployable space telescope showcases a meticulously crafted optical architecture that harnesses the untapped potential of an exceptionally expansive aperture. Behind the scenes, a collaborative synergy is at work, uniting the brightest minds from the University of Arizona, L’Garde, and Northrop Grumman. This exceptional team not only conceived the SALTUS project but also transformed it from a mere concept into a tangible reality. A series of prototypes for the inflatable mirror have been conceptualized, developed, and rigorously tested. Step into the realm of high dynamic range, non-null Thermo-Vacuum (TVAC) examinations, complete with deflectometry. Under these simulated space conditions, the optical performance of the inflatable mirror has been verified and validated. In the ceaseless pursuit of scalable space technology, researchers are pioneering uncharted territories in large dynamic range metrology solutions. Furthermore, the addition of simultaneous sensing capabilities enhances its already impressive features. These collaborative initiatives signify a monumental leap toward ushering in an era not only defined by extreme astronomy but also marked by the dawn of the next generation of optical technology.
