Using references and sentences from other articles properly in your own writing is an essential but very difficult skill for graduate students writing in English. In addition, some students do not realize that they are using sentences from other papers incorrectly in their own writing. This workshop, in English, is designed to teach sciences and engineering Master’s and Ph.D. students how to use references, such as (Turner, 2007) or [1], properly when writing in English for journal publication, conference papers, or for thesis or dissertation writing. It will not only cover basic skills, but also difficult points and the most important mistakes Hanyang graduate students make when using references.

-Is there a difference between using only the idea and the actual words from a sentence in other papers?

-What types of words are OK and what type of words should be changed when I rewrite a sentence from another research article in my own writing?

-Can I reuse sentences from my own already published paper, my professor’s, or my senior’s already published paper from the same lab?
