    Center for Teaching and Learning English Writing Lab Workshop



    This workshop, in English, is designed to help graduate students and researchers write their resumes, CVs, application letters for post-doc positions, or letters of reference in English. It will help those applying for internships, scholarships, study or sabbaticals abroad, jobs at foreign companies, research, teaching, or post-doc positions, and those writing letters of reference.

    Audience: Graduate students, researchers, or faculty from any department

    Although there are many workshops for undergraduates on how to write a basic English resume, this advice is often not enough for graduate students, researchers, or new faculty writing full academic CVs or letters to apply for academic, research, or professional jobs.

    Participants will receive a handout and a checklist, and the workshop will cover

    Common format and punctuation errors in English names, titles, addresses, and dates
    The difference between a resume for a job and a CV for an academic or research position
    Important cultural and legal differences between Western resumes and letters and Korean ones
    Tips on writing formal email
    Tips on writing Western style letters of recommendation
    Please bring a draft of your own English resume and/or cover letter for analysis during the workshop.

    *Note that this workshop will not cover the statement of purpose essay (SOP) for American graduate schools.
